Preview: New book by John Peel

How many people are hoping for an audio book with a compilation of the most laconic and funny John Peel comments taken from his legendary radio show on BBC?

Well, I am one of them.

And I guess I have to wait and hope a little longer for this dream to come true. But no need to be sad.

In late October Bantam press will publish ’The Olivetti Chronicles’, a compilation of articles the radio-legend, who died four years ago, wrote for different British newspapers and magazines over the years.

As the British Guardian wrote a few days ago, the anthology was edited by Peel’s wife, Sheila, (who also edited his then unfinished autobiography ‘Margrave of the Marshes‘ after he died) and their four children.

“Over the course of his career, he wrote for magazines and newspapers such as the International Times, Gandalf’s Garden, Sounds, the Observer, Radio Times and even Bike magazine.

“The Olivetti Chronicles will gather many of these articles, as well as unpublished pieces. Interspersed with Peel’s laconic thoughts on shaving and Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells are diary entries, letters, and commentary from Peel’s family.”

Sounds like a perfect book to discover (or re-discover) John Peel the writer (and also to bridge the time ‘till an audio book is published).
