Preview: Elektroakustischer Salon at Berghain
13 August, 2008 | 7.23AMLast month has seen quite a few special appearances at Berlin’s seminal techno cathedral Berghain, which has been opening its spacious dancefloor to other styles of music apart from the relentless new school techno you can hear there every Saturday.
First was Alva Notos’ arty but pumping glitch-meets-white-noise live act at the De:Bug party on July 3rd.
And then there was the earth-shaking excursion into heavy heavy bass-weight during the first Sub:Stance dubstep party with the likes of Shackleton, Mala, Appleblim, Distance, Scuba and T++.
Beginning in September another series of events will be launched at Berghain.
’Elektroakustischer Salon’ is the name of the new series of parties, which will start on September 4th with a fantastic line-up.
As the title of the party indicates, the concept of this series of events is to focus on sound experimentation and leftfield electronica.
Sorry, no pounding kickdrum here.
And none other than Chilean music fanatic Ricardo Villalobos will be headlining the premier with a very special DJ set of electro-acoustic classics that will suit the party’s concept and show his widespread taste in all kinds of electronic music.
Also confirmed are live acts from Macro label boss Stefan Goldmann, who is going to present his debut album ‘The Transitory State’ for the first time, and electronica’s maestro of lush and dreamy soundscapes, Ulrich Schnauss.
Last but definitely not least is a DJ set by Finnish minimal-techno legend Mika Vainio of Pansonic and Sähkö fame, who has also just released a new album full of electronic drones, industrial and techy soundscapes.
A perfect night to experience more leftfield sounds on this massive soundsystem.
