Poppin’ Beats
Poppin’ Beats
Hatiras [Hatrax Records]
28 November, 2007 | 6.08PMThe legendary Hatiras
comes across dirty on this latest Hatrax Records
release.
Funky and brazen, ‘Poppin’ Beatz’ is tinged with nostalgia because it harks back to early noughties electro and commercial Ibiza anthems.
That said, it never sounds cheesy or contrived.
Make no mistake, ‘Poppin’ Beats’ belongs smack bang in the middle of 2007.
Its surgically perfect, pounding mix of beats punctuate a wall-of-sound midrange at all the right frequencies – you’ll really feel them in between your ribcage – and as such this track belongs on all but the most futuristic of dancefloors.
Hatiras never clouds the mix with excessive or self-indulgent samples.
There’s only ever three or four lanes of audio running at any one time, save for the obligatory beats and bass, which really helps to push the key elements down your throat towards your dancing feet.
Everything is sewed together nicely with slowly evolving sounds – the midrange becomes progressively filthier; the bass more subbed and the FX near and then distant, which ensures ‘Poppin’ Beatz’, despite its simplicity, never becomes dull or tedious.
If the vocals do start to piss you off (although we can’t imagine why the would) there’s an instrumental here to play with – along with an acapella DJ tool.
