Pollyester’s ‘German Love Letter’

Pollyester’s ‘German Love Letter’

Oh Pollyester, you fill us with so many questions. For instance: Why are you writing a ‘German Love Letter’ in English? Do you really wear your (broken) heart on your sleeve? Is that shag carpeting comfortable? And how can we join the Blackheart Army of Penguin Lovers?

‘German Love Letter’ is Pollyester’s new single for Munich’s Permanent Vacation label, and its infectious, bass-heavy disco throb fits right in with fellow labelmates like Tensnake [a], John Talabot [a], and Sally Shapiro [a]. Don’t miss the remixes, either, which twist this delicious morsel of ‘80s pop in three radically different directions.

The ‘Permanent Vacation Mix’ smoothes the track into a dark, echo-soaked house groove brimming with strings and piano, while the ‘Hal Tabac Mix’ turns out the kind of skanking, skeletal dub you might expect from a vintage Stiff Records B-side. And Glasgow’s Optimo (Espacio) seem to turn the song inside out, drawing out a kind of gooey inner ambience without ever losing a grip on the song’s essential pop shape.

Check out all four versions in the player below, and scroll on for a Permanent Vacation player below that.
