Plastic Operator – News from the Road

Following a string of live gigs in major clubs across Europe, Plastic Operator takes a few minutes to speak to Beatportal about their live show and life on the road.

Next stop on the tour: Plastic Operator is playing live with Crystal Castles at AB Club, Brussels, on May 19, 2008.

How does your live show differ from the album?

Mathieu: The live show is a sort of mash-up of our songs, new loops, sampled stuff and the remixes.

It’s heavier than the album and we have a lot of fun with combining the unexpected.

Pieter: Our album can be listened to in many ways: at a party, in the car… even when relaxing on the couch.

But when we’re performing live we only have one mission: we want people to move.

Have you had anyone throw anything interesting onto the stage?

Mathieu: No underwear. A large plastic dog bone once, though.

Tell us about a favorite show on this last tour.

Pieter: I have very good memories from our show at Petrol in Antwerp, Belgium.

We played with The Subs and it was right after the students came back from their spring break.

The room was packed and people were throwing themselves completely into the music and the sheer fun of being there.

Mathieu: At Razzmatazz Club in Barcelona the vibe was amazing.

We met a bunch of friendly locals and stayed up all night (all morning really).

Barcelona is just brilliant.

Has anything unusual happened on the road?

Mathieu: Apart from parking tickets, the occasional drunk girl “looking for a husband” and the dodgy roadside food, things usually go pretty smoothly.

Pieter even mastered the art of driving with his knees so he could air drum freely as we rolled down the Autobahn.

Have you ever played at Ancienne Belgique Club before?

Pieter: No we haven’t.

Ancienne Belgique is a bit of an institution in Belgium and we love the Belgian audiences, so are very excited about this one.
