Plastic Dreams

Plastic Dreams (Audion Can't Go Home Mix)

Jaydee [R&S]

If you see the world in keywords, like I do, then this release is one heck of a search. Jaydee [a]. ‘Plastic Dreams.’ Audion. Whoa.

It’s hard to touch 1993’s original ‘Plastic Dreams’: That simple little chord, riff, and rollicking breakbeat still does dastardly things to dancefloors; an evergreen energy-booster.

The Audion [a] – or [Matthew Dear]] when he’s doing dance – remix layers his gloom-in-space aesthetic over the original’s elements.

It also adds a disembodied male voice blurting incomprehensible weirdness, and replays the riff with foggier keys.

Plus, it’s almost 13 minutes long, a number which jibes with its threatening vibe.

This is ‘Plastic Dreams’ melted in the microwave into a psychedelic nightmare – and we mean that in the best possible way.

This is only one of many mind-bending mixes of mind-bending originals on ‘In Order To Dance’, a compilation celebrating the return of seminal label R&S.
