Planet Mu drop a clusterbomb of releases

Long-running British label Planet Mu [l] dropped a clusterbomb of releases this week, with nine records making it onto Beatport including albums from Venetian Snares and Remano Eszildn.

The imprint is a purveyor for all things experimental and electronic including breakcore, ambient and dubstep, so their music isn’t for everyone but if you’re into the ever-evolving world of leftfield electronica there’s definitely a few cuts worth picking up.

The label’s commitment to embracing the technological determinism of electronic music is impressively mosaic, as defined by these nine releases.

Syntheme’s ‘Vol. 2’ and ‘Vol. 3’ is essential for 303-lovers with each release containing a half dozen or so acidic techno workouts.

Sometimes deep, sometimes frenetic and with occasional breakbeat moments and drifting loops, Syntheme’s music is accessible and competent IDM.

Ambient fans might dig Sumone’s new breakcore EP ‘Oblivion’ which offers dribbled beats, swirling electronic noise and textured sound.

Skream’s So Nasty Version of Distance’s ‘Nightvision’ has become an essential pick up for dubstep fans, whilst Sunken Foals’ blissful downtempo EP ‘Fermented Conditions’ contrasts strongly to the previously mentioned releases with serene vocal-infused electro folk and broken beat electronica.

The previously recommended Jamie Vex’d ‘In System Travel’ completes the label’s sudden outpouring and poignantly sums up Planet Mu’s experimental endeavours with micro-precision beats, technological glitches and subtle musicality.
