Peter Hook’s “The Hacienda - How Not To Run A Club” and “Hacienda Acid House Classics”
9 September, 2009 | 6.53AMA superclub before the term even existed, FAC 51 The Hacienda lasted fifteen years as the Mancunian musical institution, forming the epicentre of the city’s dynamic music, clubs and bands scene throughout the 80’s and 90’s. Now, some dozen years after misfortune, misjudgements and misbehaviour caused the ground-breaking Whitworth Street West venue to sadly close its doors on the dream, the characters and culture that created The Hacienda have ensured its legendary status, longevity, and appeal.
This October, Hacienda co-owner New Order’s Peter Hook tells the unbelievable yet true story of the music, madness and the meltdown that accompanied the rise and fall of FAC 51 in his uncompromisingly honest and forthright account of the club in The Hacienda - How Not To Run A Club (Simon & Schuster, 5th Oct 09)
Peter Hook has also compiled and mixed The Hacienda – Acid House Classics, a double CD of many of the greatest Hacienda acid classics from seminal artists such as A Guy Called Gerald, Fast Eddie, Phuture, Adonis, and New Order (New State Music, 5th Oct 09)
Peter Hook will also be answering questions submitted to FAC 51 The Hacienda Acid House Classics Facebook page. The best two questions submitted will win a signed copy of the album and book. Visit the Facebook page here:

The Hacienda – How Not To Run A Club
by Peter Hook
A no-holds-barred account of the pioneering vision, the quixotic ambition and the decadent mayhem that defined The Haçienda – the high times, the groundbreaking music, the immense loss of money and the enduring legacy.
Yes paradise never came cheap and as the 1990s commenced. The Hacienda suffered greatly as gangs, drugs, greed and a hostile police force destroyed everything that Factory Records and Joy Division/New Order had created.
The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club is Peter Hook’s indelibly personal memory of that era, and is far sadder, funnier, scarier and stranger than anyone could ever have imagined.
“The collapse of Factory retold as a tragi-comic drama doc......a cautionary tale of modern times”

Hacienda – Acid House Classics – New State Music
‘Haçienda Acid House Classics’, compiled & mixed by Peter Hook, is a personal compilation of Hooky’s favourite Haçienda Acid tunes, culled from the much-venerated, late Eighties Acid House daze.
By 1988 Acid House was established as the soundtrack to The Hac with by nights such as Hot and Nude, and DJ’s Mike Pickering, Graeme Park, and Jon Dasilva. Marking some 21 years of the genre and the club’s seminal involvement for all that time, Haçienda Acid House Classics portrays the definitive sound of Acid House and The Haçienda.
Spread over two CDs, highlights include the album include a new unreleased remix of “THE” Mancunian anthem Voodoo Ray (A Guy Called Gerald), Baby Wants To Ride (Jamie Principle), True Dub (New Order), and Lack Of Love (Charles B & Adonis) and also includes two unreleased tracks of Hooky’s and his production partner Phil Murphy, Ways Of Making Music and We’re On It (both under the name of Manray).
