Pete Tong’s DJ diary: Denver, 10/31/08

Pete Tong begins his wrap up of his North American odyssey at Beta in Denver on Halloween night.

Check out this, his second to last tour date, to see how it went down for him on an especially freak-filled night.

Denver, 10/31/08

The flight to Denver from Edmonton is direct and we are greeted on arrival by a brilliant blood red sky as the sun sets over the Rocky mountains. There is an excited anticipation in the air for Halloween, one of the biggest party nights of the year in America. The evidence is all around you as the country goes fancy dress crazy. The freaks are out!

Brown’s Place Denver - this place has history!

We check into the Brown’s Palace Hotel, a historical spot (opened 1892) that has played host to the Beatles and every president since Teddy Roosevelt (with the exception of Calvin Coolidge). It’s also home to the Ship Tavern supplier of a very cold pint of Guinness and a steak so big it almost killed off Paul Rogers.

We dine with Brad Roulier and a team of Beatporters in various forms of fancy dress. But Brad is still not giving his away just yet!

I’m playing at Beta, the city’s newest nightclub and the spiritual home of Beatport. The company is based and founded in the city and they are partners in the club. It’s also the biggest and best Funktion One soundsystem installation in the world. The scale of it is off the hook and the the booth is something to behold as well - a DJ’s dream. The monitors are the size of most clubs sound systems alone.

Halloween a go-go at Beta

The night was amazing save for one really odd thing: this club closes at 2am and that sucks because it has the potential to be one of the most amazing clubs in the world. They open three nights a week and nothing really happens until midnight so they have to make all their money in just six hours! You can’t really fault any aspect of the club - it has it all except a nitrogen machine and the license!

As for Brad Roulier’s fancy dress I think it was the scariest thing I ever saw - I can’t say anymore, it’s haunting me!

Halloween Terrors

‘Ghosts N Stuff’ Deadmau5
Well, what do you expect?

‘Walk The Line’ Paul Ritch
Thumping and funky arsed new tech jam from a talented producer

‘Around The Ingrosso’ Daft Punk
A special that Sebastian did on his US visit that is perfect party fodder, with a classy new chord sequence twist.
