“Our arrival in Montreal was greeted by a much more hostile set of immigration staff (than Toronto) who didn’t like the look of Paul Rogers (my studio buddy and tour manager) and I, and sent us the long way round through every check process possible which culminated in customs taking the view that my Korg Zero 8 controller was a national security threat…
An hour or so after getting off the plane we emerged irritated but unscathed.
Once again we couldn’t resist the pull of the main MOOG music store, I was keen to meet the owner who had a major hand in installing the awesome sound system at the venue for the night’s show, TRIBE. Once again the credit card was bashed and my suitcase is carrying more gadgets than James Bond! I was seriously tempted by the theramin!

Tribe:’We are not going home!’
The show was banging - I was really happy with every aspect of the party, awesome sound, great open-minded international crowd and hot venue.
Montreal always had a great heritage for dance music with Sonar and Stereo, but had been a little quieter during the last few years (Sonar long shut and Stereo burnt down). It’s well and truly bouncing back now.
On to New York and LA for the weekend.
Big tunes in Quebec
‘Kids’ Soulwax
Mix (MGMT)
Never fails, this is a perfect end of night anthem and another outstanding Soulwax remix - how do these boys do it?
I’m going to find out tomorrow night in NYC!
‘Sonora’ (Patrice Baumel remix) Marc Romboy
Atmospheric tech track that builds and teases over ten minutes, Patrice Baumel
is becoming a name to watch after the success of ‘Roar’ on Get Physical.
‘Mirror Dance’ (Spencer Parker remix) Afefe Iku
Another of the secret weapons from the summer, this top afro tech rhythm gets a crafty and honorable remix from Spencer Parker.
