Pete Tong tour: New York

Pete Tong tour: New York

Britain’s Pete Tong landed in New York City last Sunday for the start of a two week North American tour.

As usual the dance music treasure is keeping the Beatportal community up to date with his thoughts and tales from the road throughout his trip.

Read on for Pete’s first post from the road, which includes three bombs straight from the floor of Cielo.

NEW YORK

Straight off the back of a massive night at ADE with Deadmau5, Groove Armada, and Mutant Clan, plus the return of Wonderland at Ministry Of Sound in London (with Chris Lake, Style Of Eye, Tim Green, and Rob Marmot...thanks you guys!), I arrive back on the road in the USA.

And there is the first white lie of my blog, as the time I spend on the highway during the next two weeks will be limited to being injected and ejected from airports. I promise no more lies.

I arrive in a continent that is rapidly falling back in love with four-to-the-floor rhythms (don’t mention disco, they are not ready for that quite yet). The media is awash with stories about the explosion of dance music and DJs, including a highly amusing and extensive feature in USA Today on how to be a DJ and how playing DJ hero might help. Do you think Activision are lobbying the US press on our behalf?

So I step into Cielo in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan on Sunday night with a low level of anxiety. Will there be a line back to the East River? Am I going to get bum rushed with requests for ‘I Got A Feeling’, will the place be full of Sexy Chicks or Bitches? Will the Kanye turn up and ask for a bassline? For better, or worse, none of that materialized!

It was a hot night, deep and sexy, and a great start to the tour. It was nice to see Armand Van Helden and Quentin Harris in the house, and someone spotted Rene Armez too. Damn, I didn’t get a photo for you.

The Tong Factor search is back underway, and I got a bag full of demo CDs from the opening night. Get those demos to me during the next two weeks by handing them in at my shows (dates below). Hopefully I’ll find something super hot and we will get it released via Beatport.

Just got to Miaimi for stage 2. It is 87 degrees here today. Come on!

3 big tunes from the Cielo show
