Pete Tong Tour diary: Sheperd’s pie in Gas Town
31 March, 2009 | 7.31PMIn the countdown for Miami, Pete found himself enjoying a proper sheperd’s pie outside the UK whilst being blasted with new tunes that artists have been sent his way.
Here he shares some of his favorites.
Fabric in Gas Town, Vancouver 24th March 2009
A slower start, but I got another ski in today and discovered the best shepherd’s pie outside of the UK is served half way up Blackcombe at Christine’s. Then made the long downhill back to Vancouver, thinking about the pros and cons of Twitter! Do we really need to be that connected?
Last time I was here I joked that Tuesday was the new Saturday in this town, as so many DJs and acts play in this part of the world on weeknights and the audience has adapted.
Truth be told, the economic slow down might have something to say about that now as inevitably people are going to be forced to make choices of where to spend their hard earned, and the weekend is a more natural option.
Every day now as Miami approaches I am getting in inundated with new music, and Steve Angello
sent a new bomb over from his L.A. hotel room just before I left to play.
It’s called ‘Isabel’ and is a little different to what you’d expect from Steve. I like it. A more subtle affair that avoids the obvious in favour of strong developing melody.
Mark Knight
also sent over a great new Phoenix ‘DJ special’ that he had just finished with Funkagenda
. What a great band Phoenix are, and I got news at South By Southwest that they are about to return.
A happy night in Gas Town and great to see some old faces.
