Pete Tong Tour Diary: Hitchiking in Dallas
Pete Tong Tour Diary: Hitchiking in Dallas
24 March, 2009 | 6.27AMThere’s never a dull moment if you’re traveling with Pete Tong, and here in Dallas we find him suffering from a bit of car drama and having to find alternative methods to catch his flight on time.
Catch up with him as he journeys deep to the heart of Texas and turns out a crowd at the Lizard Lounge.
Dallas, TX, 21st March, 2009
Next morning in the lobby as we gathered for the short trip to Dallas, the question of the hour was, “So how was the afterparty? Did you go?”
Picture five grown men looking at the floor, kicking heels, scratching their heads. “Er....na.....crashed out, don’t know what happened, knackered, crazy, ordered pizza!” Tommy Lee, your reputation is secure!
The rest of the journey was spent re-enacting the hilarious “I’m On A Boat” sketch feat T. Pain from a recent episode of Saturday Night Live, perfect prep for the Miami excess!
Car drama at Dallas airport meant we spent an hour admiring the pavement whilst we waited for suitable transport, the promoter turned up in family saloon full of family junk meaning no room for DJ paraphernalia and heads.
The gig at The Lizard Lounge was a bigger success, we switched roles with Deadmau5 on first, which he enjoyed as he got to play a little deeper and longer than of late. The rules of success often mean everyone expects all the hits all the time. I followed and we kept it crazy until a 4am, two hours after the bar shut which is no mean feat in Texas!
More car drama the next day, the dreaded family saloon was back and ran out of gas on the highway about three miles short of the airport...so there I am standing on the hard shoulder with bags at 9.30am cursing the driver whilst trying to hitch a lift and not miss my flight to Vancouver. I wish I had a picture of it ! Anyway my hitching skills were better than I thought and I’m writing this on the plane listening to Damian Lazarus’s brilliantly mad album, ‘Smoke The Monster Out’.
Happy days, we are on the way to Miami .......via Canada!
