Pete Tong: ‘Miami’s WMC still important’

Mr. Dance Music himself, Britain’s Pete Tong, has revealed that he thinks Miami’s annual Winter Music Conference is still one of the most important dates in the dance music calendar.

Tongy will be broadcasting live from this year’s WMC on BBC Radio 1, and claimed that Miami’s annual March dance music gathering was still important for breaking new records.

He said: “It’s still such an important date on the calendar for the dance and electronic music business.

“By the time Ibiza starts, a lot of the records are already in play, so Miami is really the place, the training ground in fact, for the tunes that are going to be big for the summer.

“The music-makers target their material for Miami’s WMC more than any other place in the world, and for that reason the event is still unique.

“It will be great to be back there again this year.”

Pete Tong will present live broadcast from the Surfcomber Hotel, South Beach, on Friday 23rd March with guest mixes from US house hero Erick Morillo and Miami resident DJ Cedric Gervais.

Sharam from Deep Dish, Armand Van Helden, Fedde Le Grande, Bob Sinclar and David Guetta will also appear on the show as guests.

Off-air the Radio 1 party will continue with a stellar line-up of DJs including James Zabiela, Richie Hawtin, Nic Fanciulli, Frankie Knuckles, and DJ Dan.

All of their sets will be recorded for later broadcast on Radio 1’s flagship Essential Mix show.

Tickets to Pete Tong and BBC Radio 1’s special party at Surfcomber Hotel are $30.
