This week Pete talks to rising star Example, who’s recently been making waves in the electro, garage and rap scene. Seven years ago Pete Tong essentially gave him his start when he played his 7” on Radio 1, and since then he’s been riding the wave of success, with his debut album released last year, and a forthcoming one due out in April. He talks about his early start rapping on the playground, and musical influences which ranged from the Rolling Stones through to Michael Jackson, eventually giving way to a more garage bent in college. He discusses the flavor of his latest, second album, which he says will essentially be a dance pop album peppered with rap. He talks about collaborations between Herve, Chase & Status and others in the mix.  He’s got a forthcoming single called ‘Girl Can’t Dance’ due out in the new year, which includes a hard fought for sample of David Bowie’s ‘Jean Genie’. He’s also got a new MTV sitcom filmed completely on a mobile phone, and 2009 is due to be a huge year for the rising star. MySpace page for more information.
