Pete Tong drops Pacha Ibiza for Eden
14 January, 2008 | 6.08AM- Section: Music News
Britain’s Pete Tong will ditch Pacha in Ibiza Town next summer, to run his club night at Eden in San Antonio.
The move will surprise many clubbers - Tong was instrumental in the success of Pure Pacha, and Pacha has been his spiritual home on the island for years.
Whilst Pacha is the most famous and prestigious club on the island, and attracts the wealthy, VIPs and models, Eden is popular with younger clubbers (particularly the British) and it isn’t quite so classy.
It’s known more for its hard house and trance nights, then the fashion-conscious affluent house crowd that Pete Tong is used to playing for at Pacha.
Pete Tong’s move to Eden has sparked a debate in the industry, with some suggesting that the BBC Radio 1 ambassador of dance might finally be nearing the end of his long and highly successful DJ career.
One insider told Beatportal: “Pete can’t keep going forever.
“He’ll be 50 in a few years.
“Because Eden is so popular with the Brits, it makes sense for him to see out his Ibiza days in a club that will be rammed with Tong supporters that listen to his radio show.”
