Donr'Truss [Dumb-Unit]

This is the debut release form London/Brooklyn duo Donr’Truss, and what better place to do it than on Jeremy P. Caulfield’s thoroughly excellent Dumb-Unit?

Like many DU releases, it’s a little spooked, a little dark, but loaded with the elusive sense of character that sets it apart from the bulk of wonkily-tinged minimal about.

‘Forseen’ is a spacey, rolling groover, with tight snares and burbling basslines underpinning a ricocheting clap pattern.

Laced with a touch of old school charm, it offers plenty of potential for devilish late-night action.

‘Forethought’ goes a little darker, working a slightly sharper groove with similarly edgy percussive nuances.

Next up, ‘Unseen’ plays with varying degrees of Shonky-like loopiness, giving it the lift-off feel that, on the right system, will tear the roof down.

Best of all is the Sarah Goldfarb mix of ‘Forseen’, which imbues a sense of depth and colour into proceedings, without loosing sight of the original’s nihilistic appeal.

It’s been a little while, but as usual, it’s good to see the Dumb-Unit circus roll back into town.
