Don’t call it seasonal, but there’s a Halloween-ish quality to Nivek Tsoy’s aptly named ‘People Of The Night’ from his new four-track ‘Empty Streets EP’ (i! Records).

It’s not at the Horrorist level of gruesome though.

But it does have a moody, shadow-stalker vibe, with a disembodied voice, skittery little string noises that sound like fingernails on the proverbial chalkboard, and a pleasant Maurizio chug that builds into a slow, swarthy head-nodder.

Understated for sure, but very deliberate, and a perfect mid-set tension-builder.

And if Nivek Tsoy is indeed Kevin Yost, as many savvy trainspotters have guessed (just spell his name backwards), this could result in a new producer parlor game.

Hey, have you heard the new Cire Zdyrp or Sinned Rerref? Work those ones out.
