Paul van Dyk’s VONYC fan selection

Paul van Dyk’s VONYC fan selection

Paul van Dyk is a great ambassador for electronic music. His altruism over the years has seen him stick his much-welcomed nose into political issues that few DJs would care to think about.

He was the only non-American artist to participate in the 2004 and 2008 Rock The Vote campaigns in the US, which aimed to encourage young people to vote.

He fought poverty, opposed the Iraq war publicly at gigs, and this week auctioned a signed Allen & Heath Xone:3D mixer on eBay for Oxfam’s Haiti Appeal.

He is also a man of the people when it comes to his award-winning radio show VONYC. At the end of 2009 PvD asked fans to vote for their favourite tracks, artists, and guest mixes as part of his annual VONYC Sessions Awards.

The results of that vote includes what Paul van Dyk’s fans consider to be the best trance cuts of 2009. You can hear what they voted for below.

As expected, the fan selection matches Paul van Dyk’s uplifting trance sound perfectly. PvD’s own ‘Home’ feat. Johnny McDaid is at No.1, followed by Alex M.O.R.P.H.’s remix of Filo & Peri ‘Ashley’ feat. Aruna.

Newcomer Ben Nicky scored a winner with his ‘Special Moment’ instrumental at No.3, and Paul van Dyk’s sometime collaborator Giuseppe Ottaviani is at No.4 with ‘Fallen’ feat. Faith. His remix of Paul van Dyk’s Berlin Wall tribute ‘We Are One’ is also included in the best trance tracks of 2009 list.
