Hudson Mohawke [Warp Records]
29 January, 2009 | 3.14AM2008 was the year of Glasgow, in which our audio spectrum was infiltrated by the likes of Rustie
, Heralds of Change, Hudson Mohawke
and Stuff Records
.
Never one to miss a good thing, our good friends at Warp Records
jumped on the next commuter train with pen and paper at the ready and snapped up this new up and coming talent, showering them with album deals and promising futures.
But this isn’t some ‘flash in the pan’, ‘fly by night’ business we’re dealing with here, if you’ve heard the buzz surrounding Hudson Mohwake then believe it’s because his music, along with that of Rustie’s and the likes of Flying Lotus
will be crafting the future sounds of electronic music.
‘Overnight’ is the standout track taken from Hudson’s debut EP on Warp, ‘Polyfolk Dance’. A hybrid of instrumental hip-hop with 2-step beats and epic string overtures, woven together to form a crushing tapestry of sublime soul.
Whereas previous outings may have proven a little inaccessible, this release really brings Hudson’s clinical production techniques to the fold.
With a sound that is closer to his Heralds of Change moniker, ‘Overnight’ literally brings Hudson Mohawke on par with label buddy Flying Lotus
overnight.
