Ora Recordings Q10: Jeremy Sky & Malek

Ora Recordings Q10: Jeremy Sky & Malek

Keeping up with Ora Recordings [l] tradition, time for another Q10 interview.

This time around Montreal artists Jeremy Sky & Malek will answer 10 questions part of the Ora Recordings Q10 interview.

1) Tell us more about yourself. Where are you from?

Jeremy Sky & Malek is a brand new duo project that started few weeks ago. We are coming from completely different environnement: Jeremy is a producer and Malek, a DJ. We’ve decided to bring our idea together so Jeremy production skills can be matched with Malek’s knowledge of the dancefloor. It’s the type of collaboration that can become very successful because of our different views of EDM.

2) How long have you been involved with music?

We’ve both been involved for the past 3 years. Jeremy behind the computer screen and Malek behind the decks.

3) How did you get started in music?

Jeremy has always been passionate about melodic music. It was all natural for him to be interested in Trance music and start to develop his style as a producer. For Malek, he always have been passionate by electronic dance music and brought him to start his DJ career 3 years ago.

4) Who are your influences or your favorite artists?

Production wise, Jeremy is a big fan of Daniel Kandi, Above & Beyond and 7 skies. DJing wise Malek is a big fan of Armin Van Buuren, we can almost call him a groupie (lol).

5) Tell us about your relationship with Ora Recordings?

It’s our first collaboration with Ora Recordings and we are very happy so far. It was important for us to work with a label based in Montreal, so we can be able to communicate, meet, discuss (of course drink beer) with people of the label to know what to do and not to do. And in Montreal, and you’re looking for good label, you have to work with Ora Recordings.

6) What studio gear do you use in order to create your music?

Right now we have a very basic setup. We’re working on Mac with Ableton Live. We have KRK monitors, an Axiom-49 midi controller for our melodies and basslines.

7) Do you rely on software or hardware?

We are primarily relying on software. We couldn’t afford to have a bunch of hardwares right now. We will eventually have a combination of both, but we are so far quite efficient by working on softwares only.

9) What are your views and opinions on downloads and file sharing?

All this file sharing, is, of course, very damageable for the music industry. However it can also help emerging producers to get more visibility.

10) What are you future music plans (gigs, radio shows, releases, current projects)?

We just had confirmed that our brand new radio show will be airing every 2nd Thursday of the month on Afterhours.fm We’re very happy to braodcast on this well known station and will definitely help us to build relations with producers worlwide. Also Malek is still very active in the DJing. In April, he played at the 17th edition of Bal en Blanc and played alongside Armin Van Buuren on May 22nd.  We’re also working on some new stuff and will be having some new releases this summer.

Be sure to check out their first ever release ‘White Dream’ with a remix from Gabriel Batz [a] out soon on Ora Recordings.
