Elevator People [Sheeva Records]

Functional would probably be the best way to describe the second outing for Elevator People on the Florida label Sheeva Records.

There are certainly sufficient sunshine vibes to hold the attention for the duration of the 10-minute Main Mix, but not quite enough to stir you from the sun lounger you’d probably be on while hearing this.

A busy hub of tribal activity leads the way – with bongos, congas and all the associated – tickling a range of frequencies as they do their percussive jig.

An assortment of dreamy synth tones occupies the background as a tropical organ natters away in the fore, taking responsibility for the track’s main melodic hook.

The Dub Mix seems a little pointless, owing to the Main Mix’s already stripped back nature.

The synth action of the former is somewhat restrained, leaving the Latino percussion to carry the weight of the track’s interest and drive.

Some capable use of dub-style delays does add some further interest to the melodic aspects that loll lazily around the more forceful beats.

This is by no means the most accomplished record you will give your time to this year, although as a piece of well paced, mid-set, beach house, it works just fine, thank you very much.
