Even if you’re not familiar with the name Heatbeat, chances are you’ll have heard their music.

Supported by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk and Tiesto, all the big names in trance are playing their records, whether at gigs, on radio shows and podcasts or on album compilations.

Also known as Matias Faint and Agustin Servente, the DJ/Producer duo from Buenos Aires first caught the ear of Paul van Dyk in January last year when they signed their first tune, ‘Another Loud Thought’ – a track which embraces electro, techno and trance.

Since then they’ve created quite a stir within the dance music industry with their ability to mash up genres and create a new sound.

“If the focus is on trance 100% of the time, there is no evolution,” says Agustin, and it’s this that makes Heatbeat so interesting.

Their bootleg of Linkin Park’s ‘Numb’ was hammered out on dance floors worldwide and they’ve gained recognition for combining elements of other genres of music (such as alternative/rock, electro-house, tech-house, minimal, and progressive house) into their records, which are mostly classified as trance.

Although they’re both classically trained musicians, the pair have only been producing electronic music since 2006, but already they’ve secured DJ residencies in Argentina, and their filthy, electro-tech-trance track, “Push Over,”
reached the #1 spot of Beatport’s trance chart and they’ve got a worldwide debut tour planned this year.

The release of ‘Nebula’ in April gained support from Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Above & Beyond and Gareth Emery, who said, “This will be the track that puts [Heatbeat] at the front of every good DJ’s record box for quite a while.”

And with up-and-coming tracks like ‘Caledonia’ and ‘Spindash’ (released at the end of May) already supported by the likes of Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery and DJ Shah, it looks like Heatbeat will be responsible for bulking up the record collection of many a DJ throughout 2008.
