Omid 16B to follow Prince with DJ Mag LP giveaway

Top house producer Omid 16B is to follow in the footsteps of Prince by giving his new album ‘Like 3 Ears & 1 Eye’ away free with a forthcoming issue of DJ Magazine.

Prince famously rewrote the music industry’s distribution model when he gave away his album ‘Planet Earth’ with a Sunday newspaper.

Omid 16B told DJ Mag: “Prince was definitely an inspiration. When I heard he’d done it with his album, I thought, ‘Wow! That’s a really great move’.

“It’s breaking new ground, you never know what’s gonna happen.”

Recently the music industry has attempted to come up with new ways to distribute new albums to combat falling CD sales and the march of legal and illegal digital downloading.

Radiohead shocked the world when they announced that they would be distributing their new album ‘In Rainbows’ from their website as a download where fans could ‘name their price’.
