Omar & Zed Bias: Dancing
Omar & Zed Bias: Dancing
22 July, 2011 | 2.01AMZed Bias first earned widespread acclaim for his 2000 hit ”Neighbourhood," a veritable UK garage classic; unlike so many of his peers from the UKG scene, he’s still holding his own, over a decade later. While his output slowed in the mid ‘00s, Bias (also known as Maddslinky) has picked up the pace in the past couple of years, obviously invigorated by current movements in UK funky and UK house.
Bias remains a remarkably versatile producer, ranging from the bare-knuckled grime of ”Colditz” to the liquid, rolling d’n’b of “Something About This,” for Hospital Recordings. Now he teams up with the veteran house vocalist Omar to deliver “Dancing” (Tru Thoughts), a rollicking jam that can only be described as “lovers’ funky.” Omar’s muscular voice is the perfect match for Bias’ hard-charging percussion, and its smoothness is the perfect foil for clattering steel drums and pizzicato strings. A serious Carnival jam, this one.
The EP includes instrumental and a capella versions of the tune—get remixing, people!—as well as “It’s So,” a slow, glowering slab of 4/4 action. Check out the whole release here.
