Olav Basoski debuts Surplus
3 December, 2007 | 6.05PMAnother producer launching a new imprint via Beatport is Dutch wunderkid Olav Basoski
and his Surplus
label.
In actuality, Olav is anything but a new kid on the block — he’s a 15-year vet on the house scene.
“Ever since electro-influenced house surfaced a couple of years ago, I’ve had a feeling this might finally bring an end to the narrow-minded, one-way thinking amongst DJs and producers about ‘their’ style of dance music,” he states.
“I’ve been doing this since the early nineties, and to me it’s all the same; it’s house music!”
Surplus will be his musical outlet for a style he describes as coming from “somewhere in the depths of the gap between house, techno and trance”.
To hear exactly what he means, check out the debut release of his own track ‘Slo-Magnon’ backed with ‘One Eight Seven’ – the former a driving tech-etched number, the latter a more ethereal blend of styles.
