NYC is Sasha and John Digweed’s home turf
4 April, 2008 | 2.02PM- Section: Music News Topics: Sasha & Digweed Tour 2008
As we drive towards the Lincoln Tunnel between New Jersey and New York City, John Digweed explains that New York is Sasha and Digweed’s home turf.
“We’ve never played at Webster Hall before, but tonight it should be busy,” he said.
When was the last time John played in New York?
“In September I played at Pacha,” he says, as the bus negotiates down a tight, pedestrian strewn street.
“There’s not many clubs left to play at in New York for our type of music, but Pacha is a good club to play at.”
The bus is two hours late to the venue because the police have created some annoying re-routes, and negotiating a 60ft bus and trailer through the streets of the Big Apple is a painfully slow process.
Webster Hall has a capacity of around 2500, so this will be the biggest show of the tour so far.
However it’s likely to sell out, because New York is where Sasha and John Digweed built up their famous relationship behind the decks with their monthly residency at Twilo.
Their residency at the now defunct club really opened up the door to America for the duo, and Delta Heavy and this 2008 tour are evidence of their American legacy.
Last night after the Philidelphia show Sasha sped off back to New York, ahead of the tour bus and crew.
“New York is my home,” he said. “It will be nice to sleep in my own bed and have a whole day in New York.”
Sasha lives in New York with his wife and their newborn son.
