Noisey selects the best drum sounds of 2011

Leave it to Vice to reinvent the year-end roundup as we know it.

Noisey, the music-focused arm of the Vice empire, takes a look back at 2011 by selecting the best percussive components found within the year’s releases. Hunting for the best snares, kicks and hi-hats, they stick mostly to the hip-hop side of things, but we’re pretty sure any of you production specialists will be interested in their rankings.

Who can argue with a list that honors creations from Samiyam, Modeselektor, Siriusmo, Lorn and other such innovative beatmakers? Given that it’s the heartbeat of music, it’s a shame we haven’t celebrated percussion in this fashion a lot earlier.
