No Side Effects

Adrian Eftimie [Groove Digital]

We have two electro house and techno mixes for you this month of Adrian Eftimie [a] ‘No Side Effects’, and as far as the former genre goes, you’ll probably be after the Wordkidz On Fire mix.

This is quite deep as electro house goes.

The remix has a menacing, almost morbid vibe to it that goes down especially well when you’re driving on the motorway at night whilst it’s raining, and you’re watching the yellow streetlights drift past in a car that is clouded with marijuana smoke (or so we’ve been told).

But for all the sinister connotations, the actual body of the tune is quite uplifting, with its bit-crushed, bouncy bass and cute sound effects.

The master touch on the Wordkiza On Fire mix is its video game-style sample.

Producers famously find it challenging to implement these types of sounds into dance music, and even though the sample here is in complete contrast to everything else going on (it sounds like Sonic The Hedgehog screeching to a halt), it rounds off the track with palpable polish.

You also get a cool Belocca’s Dubfire Remix, which is a deft slice of flanged funk, complete with breathtaking female vocals in full effect.
