‘No red on mixer!’ Ibiza clubs tell DJs

Beatportal was surprised to find the message ‘No Red On Mixer’ in giant letters in the DJ booth of Amnesia in Ibiza.

The club is considered to be one of the best in the world and only the crème de la crème of the DJing elite play in the main room of Amnesia, so you would think that the jocks that spin here understand that going into red is bad.

But then again, maybe all DJs have that urge inside to push things just a little bit louder?

Ibiza’s Eden club warns DJs to avoid the red zone

Over the years pretty much every big DJ in the world has played the main room of Amnesia from the trance dudes like Paul van Dyk, to techno heroes like Richie Hawtin and Sven Väth and the club has witnessed some amazing parties.

No doubt, in the heat of the moment when the pressure was on to take things just that little bit higher, some DJs have cracked and entered the no-go red zone, much to the infuriation of the club’s sound engineers and the soundsystem.

Going into the red zone on the mixer is bad because it distorts the sound - that distortion can cause havoc to soundsystems which are carefully tuned.

A club’s entire soundsystem is tested and balanced through the one single output of a DJ mixer, so if the source becomes distorted the rest will be too.

That’s why it’s very important never to push into the red.

We just thought it was funny that the superstar jocks had to be told this too.
