Last friday (27th Feb) was the re-launch on No Dough [l], a Spanish record label based in Alicante which has spent the past months re-inventing itself with new ideas and concepts. After a new release by label founder Towie [a] which has received great feedbacks from some key names in the industry, the labels own new website is also live. Although in phase 1 you will find plenty of information on there which will keep you occupied, check it out a www.nodoughmusic.com

The site contains interviews, monthly podcasts, what were about, our full backcatalogue available for streaming, infos on all our artists and in the next few weeks our first very own music video which will accompany the ND010 - One step back, two steps forward release produced by Suddi Raval. Here is an interview with the label boss taken from the No Dough [l] website…

1.  What makes you tick? What is Towie all about?

Well there is quite a few things that make me tick such as good food, having a laugh with friends or family, watching the footy team i support, but primarily its all about the music for me. I have been subject to ‘house music’ and all of its subgenres since i was 14 years old (now 27). At first I was overwhelmed by the way records could actually be mixed together using turntables, then as years went by i became more interested in how it was all made. I still find it amazing how good ‘music’ can make you feel , no matter how simple or complex it is, and I am not just referring to techno or house either. Music and DJing is my life and something i have dreamed of for years and years, and to be honest still dream about it. If I can make other people feel as happy as I have felt hearing my idols play, then I will be a very happy man .

2.  Where have you come from?

AS I said I have experienced and been influenced by many styles of music throughout my life, which I suppose I am glad about as it’s given me an insight into the various scenes, and how they have crossed over and even blended together at times. I mean I was first introduced to house music on labels like AM:PM, ffrr, Manifesto and positiva in 1995 which put out classics such as ‘Alcatraz’, ‘crescendo’ and ‘the bomb’ but the older I got and the more credible clubs I went to, my interests had changed and I was sucked in by the epic and euphoric sets of Paul Oakenfold and co. For a few years I played early trance stuff, but then that all changed when I moved down to London to study at SAE. Bedrock partys @ Heaven, Turnmills and other clubnights showed me a new direction to house music, a more progressive vibe.

What really changed my life though, and what was probably the most influential experience for me, was Sonar 2005. It was my first time at the festival and first time I had seen Richie Hawtin play, and it literally blew me off my feet. That weekend planted a seed in my head and since then it has just grown and grown.  It was like a first date but with techno, and potentially the best date I have ever had ( sorry Jules).

3.  Where are you going?

Who knows what tomorrow will bring but in my opinion the best thing that you can do is follow your heart and do what you do best. It took me a long time to realize where I wanted to go with my music and I am now building up something I have wanted to do for a long time.  Times are changing in the music industry at an incredible rate, so it’s going to be very exciting keeping on top of it all and ahead of the race. Our main company Made For Music S.L now operates the label ‘ No Dough [l]’ and also our ‘Feel-Audio’ band which offers post production services such as mastering. All this plus DJing and Producing proves that there are interesting and exciting times ahead.

4.  Do you plan on running any No Dough [l] events this year?

Yes I do, we are working towards a possible event at the Sonar festival in Barcelona this year. Our plans are to host a label Showcase at a venue in the heart of the city during the week of the festival which will coincide with the release out just before the event, and a special release package out after. I will also be hosting some smaller more intimate parties in the city of Alicante as from March at a place called Soda, these smaller events are a means to familiarizing the people of Alicante (where the label is based ) with new music not only from the label but from other artists.  After Sonar I am sure there will be more No Dough parties in other towns and cities so keep your eyes peeled.

5.  Who do you most admire?

This one is tricky because I admire many artists and their dedication, constant input into the industry and most of all innovation. However when it comes down to who I really admire the most , looking at the big picture and not just in the world of music, it would have to be my parents. If I achieve even half of what they have I will be proud of myself. Even though they aren’t really clued up on what it is I do, they have been through thick and thin, started with nothing and ended up much much more. To me they are a perfect example of what hard work and determination can bring you.
