Nightdrive With You (Jupiter Remix)

Anoraak [ESR]

As the name might well suggest, Anoraak’s music reserves a geeky sort of penchant for the kitschier sounds of yesteryear.

But we live in times where the geek is chic and as such the nonchalant vocals, slap-happy bass-line and squelchy chords on ‘Nightdrive…’ sound more ‘now’ than they ever would have in that love-fest of trash we call the eighties.

Melodies don’t come much more sickly sweet than this, but, for those of us who are partial to having our cake and eating it, that can only be a good thing.

Jupiter’s remix is rather like a cake, in fact.

The focus – or filling, if you will – is a body-jolting, pelvis-popping bass-line, with the delectable icing taking the shape of a Whitney-esque Fender Rhodes.

It is sliced up and served with unabashed electro-snare, and the undoubted cherry-on-top comes via a climactic, masturbatory ‘guitar’ solo, reminiscent of Daft Punk circa 2001.

The man under the coat is Frenchman, Frédéric Rivière, and, like many-a-Gaul has before him, he succeeds in proving that cheese is actually quite tasty when you think about it.

It’s getting cold outside. Stick your Anoraak on…
