New Year’s Anthem Producer Challenge

New Year’s Anthem Producer Challenge

It’s contest time again, and with the year drawing to a close, we’re getting celebratory: Beatport and Sounds/To/Sample, in association with Great Stuff and SoundCloud, present the New Year’s Anthem Producer Challenge!

This is your shot at creating a track to be played at the stroke of midnight by DJs around the world, possibly not just this year, but for years to come.

Sounds/To/Sample co-founder Sharooz, one of our judges, explains, “We are looking for innovative use of the elements, be it chopping, effecting, resampling or general mangling of the samples provided. The most daring entries will gather the most attention!

Great Stuff’s A&R and label manager Rainer Weichhold, another of our judges, says, “I’ve never heard of a countdown track before, so this is definitely a great idea. Millions of DJs could use it for the next 30 years. So please give your best to produce a timeless track, and keep in mind that the winning track will be released on Great Stuff Records.” Just in time to ring in the new year.

The rest of our panel is comprised of Noura Labbani, VP of Artist & Label Relations at Beatport, and SoundCloud’s Nils Westerlund, who is also a techno producer in his own right.

Labbani told Beatportal, “My advice: Be creative and innovative; at the same time, don’t forget about the quality of production. I want to feel those goosebumps!”

Read on for the full contest rules.

The rules are simple: just purchase Sounds/To/Sample’s Ultimate NYE Countdown sample pack and use those sounds to create your version of the ultimate NYE anthem.

You need not restrict yourself to only the sounds from the S/T/S sample pack; producers should feel to avail themselves of whatever other sounds and instruments they wish (although unlicensed/uncleared samples are not allowed). However, entries will be judged in part on how well each track has integrated the designated sounds.

When you are ready to submit your production join Beatport’s Soundcloud page and submit your entry from the dropbox tab, or simply use the embedded dropbox below by December 16, 2010.

Send us your sounds

For your entry to qualify please ensure your settings (located at the bottom of the upload page) are as follows:
* DOWNLOADS DISABLED (see the image to the right for an example of how the setting should look)
* COMMENTS ENABLED

In addition to having your track released on Great Stuff, the winning producer will also receive a one-year SoundCloud Pro account, a $200 Beatport voucher, and the Sounds/To/Sample Sample Magic Electro Collection. Two runners-up will each receive a one-year SoundCloud Lite account and a $50 Beatport voucher.
