New talent: Ocelot
New talent: Ocelot
18 January, 2010 | 9.25AMAustin, Texas, and Leeds, England, are quite different cities, but when it comes to a fat electro house bassline, the two connect.
Leeds’ James Welsh and Austin’s Cory Kilduff are Ocelot, and together they are the cities’ only-known musical partnership.
With a studio process made possible by instant messaging and the internet, Ocelot have quickly risen up the blogosphere through a number of high profile indie dance bootlegs, that includes The Killers ‘Human’, Muse ‘Knights Of Cydonia’, and Royksopp ‘Girl & The Robot’.
Now comes news that the pair’s debut album ‘No Requests’ has been signed to PIAS’ ever-influential Wall Of Sound label for release later this year.

The Rise of Ocelot
Ocelot began working together after Welsh met Kilduff during a BMX holiday in Texas.
Kilduff was part of a hardcore band known as The Rise, and Welsh did remixes for them, before joining as a full time electronic member of the band.
After The Rise ceased to be, Kilduff and Welsh continued working together and decided to go in a new direction that centered around electro pop and pumping house.
One of their earliest singles was ‘Our Time’, which Tom Neville remixed with surprisingly little fanfare in 2008 (above).
Also worthy of note, was their remix of Kap10Kurt ‘Mission Complete’. “His affinity for 80’s movie montage songs resonated with us in a big way,” said Cory, of their remix.
There’s also a forthcoming remix of Shy Child ‘Disconnected’ which is rather large. And now that the pair’s debut longplayer is primed for release on WOS (the label has also just signed The Human League for a multi-album deal), they are probably worth keeping an eye on.
