New Luomo album in October

Finnish multitalent Sasu Ripatti, better known as Vladislav Delay, will release his fourth studio album under his Luomo moniker at the end of October.

Like his first three albums, the album will feature a lot of vocals and Luomo’s very own sound of multilayered house music with a strong pop-appeal.

When eight years ago the first Luomo 12"s appeared, it was like dub-house was the hottest and most seductive thing since Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus had started to mix up dub and techno.

But tracks like ‘Tessio’ or ‘Synkro’ were not just endlessly deep and moody journeys in dub-house, they also brought a strong pop-appeal into the equation.

Something unheard of before. Or as someone wrote on discogs: “12 minutes of pure dubby minimal soul-tech poetry, like a cross between Pet Shop Boys ‘West End Girls’ and Maurizio, sung in digital soul heaven.”

In other words, pure bliss.

After the success of his first album ‘Vocalcity’, which was a compilation of the three previously released EPs, Luomo was signed by BMG to record his second album ‘Present Lover’ for a major label.

Most critics didn’t like the album at the time it came out, too big was the outlandish shadow of its predecessor (but now, with his new album ‘Convivial’ coming up in October, it might be the right time to give it another try. You might be surprised, how good it sounds five years later.).

His last album ‘Paper Tigers’ was another step into an even more refined pop aesthetic. Released two years ago on Delay’s own Huume imprint, it came and went rather inconspicuously - still being a great album.

It seems as if his new album ‘Convivial’, which will also be released on Huume, will finally be able to step outside the big shadow of Luomo’s first milestone ‘Vocalcity’.

For it, Delay collaborated with Sascha Ring aka Shitkatapult’s Apparat, Cassy, Chicago legend Robert Owens, Jake Shears and Finnish vocalist Johanna Livanainen.

Check it out.
