New Labels Alert: Phil Kieran, Soulfooled, Sincopat + more

Once again, we bring you a roundup of some of the most recent additions to Beatport’s roster of labels. Some of these are brand-new imprints from established figures in the scene; some of them come from dark horses just coming out of the gate. And, occasionally, we’ll be shouting from the rooftops that, at long last, we’ve signed up one of the few labels that we haven’t previously offered.

This month we feature Phil Kieran Recordings, Einmusika, Dave Ellesmere’s Housenation, Affkt’s Sincopat, and Soulfooled, from Marc Poppke, Superlounge, and Alex Niggemann. Keep reading to explore all five.

Phil Kieran Recordings

Alloy Mental’s Phil Kieran [a] gets his new label, aptly titled Phil Kieran Recordings, off to a huge start with a new release of “Skyhook.” Originally released on NovaMute in 2007, it’s long been unavailable digitally; the new edition includes “Skyhook 1,” “Skyhook 2,” and “Greasepaint,” all from the original, plus the unreleased “Skyhook 3,” and it rounds out the package with a killer set of remixes from Adam Beyer & Jesper Dahlback, Green Velvet, Scuba, SCB, and Ricardo Tobar.

In early 2011, Kieran will return with the Carousel EP, featuring remixes from Egberg and Wesley Matsell; after that, the label is planning roughly one release per month, with future remixes on deck from Lucy, Pfirter, Green Velvet, and, further out, a Kieran collaboration with Boxcutter.

Soulfooled

Soulfooled is the new label from Berlin’s Marc Poppcke, Superlounge, and Alex Niggemann; in their words, it’s designed “to welcome music enthusiasts, artists, dancers and performers to their own distinctive brand of house music.” Launched over the summer, Soulfooled has racked up four records so far, with tracks and remixes from Audiofly, Niggemann, Poppcke, David Durango, Terje Bakke, Till Von Sein & Chopstick, Phonique, Sean Miller, Superlounge, and Den Ishu; check out their Myspace for podcasts, club dates and more information.

Einmusika

We couldn’t be happier finally to have Einmusika in our catalog: launched back in 2008, Einmusika continues to hold its own with a satisfying mixture of house and techno, all of it deep, analogue-flavored and as colorful as the label’s sleeves. Founded by—you guessed it—Einmusik [a], the Hamburg-based label is largely a showase for his own productions, but you’ll also find likeminded spirits like Dirk Dreyers, Marco Dassi, Maurice Aymard, and Piek on the roster. Check out Einmusika.com to learn more.

Housenation

You don’t come much more direct than with a name like Housenation, Dave Ellesmere’s new label. A familiar figure from labels like Cocoon, 100% Pure, Kanzleramt, Remote Area, and Rekids, Ellesmere is targeting Housenation at the overlap between house and techno with muscular, percussion-heavy jams with that ought to play equally well in big rooms and backrooms. Simone Burrini’s “Ai Ai” kicked off the label in late October, and earlier this month Carlo Lio kicked it up another notch with “Scylla.”

Sincopat

Another relative newcomer is Affkt’s Sincopat, which just checked in with its second release last week. Affkt (Marc Martínez Nadal), based in Valencia, is part of a wave of new Spanish producers, and so far he’s keeping things largely local, with productions from the likes of John Talabot, Hermanez, Uner, and Los Suruba. Affkt’s own “Once Upon a Time” inaugurated the label with an array of disco-tinged house and deep, pumping tech house; the latest release is Darlyn Vlys and Days Off’s Soleil Levant EP, again fusing disco with tech house—and even a radio-ready pop touch.
