Native Instruments’ Sizzling Summer Software
7 August, 2008 | 5.00PM- Section: Music News Topics: Technology
Over the past week or so, the software elves at Native Instruments have delivered a few nifty new software products.
Both Traktor and Traktor Scratch have received upgrades that add new features, keeping them fresh and new for thousands of laptop DJs who rely on these products.
On the production front, Native’s KORE now has yet another specialized soundpack to tantalize producers in the mood to expand their sonic palette.
Traktor and Traktor Scratch
The software updates - Traktor 3.4 and Traktor Scratch 1.3 - now offer full Unicode support, which in plain English means they support much more than plain English.
Languages with complex characters like Japanese, Mandarin, Hebrew, and Cyrillic are now part and parcel of the Traktor products.
In more practical developments, both updates improve tracking precision for scratching in relative mode, as well as adding a new intelligent “Tracking Alert” function that gives early warning for adverse conditions like worn-out needles.
The “Tracking Alert” function alone could rescue a few sets from the abyss of dead air and nasty glitches.
In addition, there’s enhanced MIDI controller handling and of course, the requisite “bug fixes” that accompany all new software updates.

Absynth Twilights for KORE
Native Instruments’ KORE hardware/software synth just keeps getting better and better, thanks to NI’s dedication to delivering expansion packs based on their uber-popular softsynths.
The latest, Absynth Twilights, is a pad collection derived from their semi-modular Absynth software.
Focusing on swirling soundscapes and ethereal pads, Absynth Twilights is sure to be a huge hit with the progressive crowd as it delivers those luscious textures reminiscent of Jaytech and Shawn Mitiska’s ambient complexity.
According to Native’s press release, “Every sound in ABSYNTH TWILIGHTS is further enhanced with consistent controller assignments and eight morphing-capable Sound Variations for KORE 2 and the free KORE Player. Full meta data for the Sound Browser in KORE also allows producers to locate sounds based on intuitive musical attributes, making it especially easy to integrate Absynth Twilights into a professional music production workflow.”
