NAMM 2008: Five minutes with… Richard Vission
20 January, 2008 | 12.30PMBased in LA, Richard Vission has been one of the premier US house DJs since the mid 1990s.
His recent collaborations with Dave Aude have consistently topped the Billboard charts and his original productions with pop artists like Hilary Duff are helping to cement his reputation as an album producer as well.
The NAMM 2008 quickie interview goes something like this.
What brings you to NAMM this year?
I’ve been working with Pioneer for several years now and so I’m happy to support them.
Pioneer was my reason for transitioning from vinyl to CDs, and they’re nailing it.
What’s your favorite synth right now?
There really isn’t one synth. I like the Minimonsta and ARP softsynths, but I really like to layer synths and create my own sound. That’s the secret.
What workstation software are you using to craft your tracks?
I’m using Apple Logic. I like Pro Tools, but for being creative my environment is definitely all Logic.
Speaking of live gigs, what’s your current DJ rig?
Pioneer. Three CDJs, the 800 mixer without a doubt.
Anything you’d like to say to your Beatport fans?
There are a couple of new things coming out on Solmatic Recordings; a song called ‘Warlock’ by David Garcia and Hi Spies and another track by them called ‘Out of My Mind’.
I’m also remixing Static Revenger ‘Everything is Beautiful’.
