NAMM 2008: Five minutes with… Paul Van Dyk
18 January, 2008 | 12.00PM- Section: Music News Topics: Technology
Paul Van Dyk needs no introduction.
We caught up with Paul at the Euphonix booth and he generously shared some of his technical insights.
Enjoy!
What brings you to NAMM?
The excitement of new technology — and Euphonix.
What’s your favorite tech toy now?
The Euphonix System 5-MC.
And for synths?
The Virus. The combination of software, control surface and DSP is amazing.
What sequencer do you use to craft your tracks?
I do all my work in Logic, with Ableton Live as an adjunct.
I’ve also been DJing with Live for two or three years now, with a 3D Allen&Heath mixer and an Evolution UC-33.
I use two computers; one for DJing and one for live software synths.
They’re synched via MIDI Time Code.
The DJ computer is controlled by the Allen&Heath board.
The synth computer is controlled by M-Audio Axiom and an E-MU controller.
Anything you’d like to say to your Beatport fans?
Look out for all the upcoming releases on Vandit Digital!
