Last month’s Twisted Records’ Danny Tenaglia featuring Celeda ‘Music Is the Answer’ remix contest saw 624 aspiring producers remix the house anthem ‘Music is the Answer’, with the top 10 remixes as voted for by the public sent to Twisted Records and the artists.
A further 25 remixes were chosen by Beatportal’s remix team, and Twisted Records made the final decision as to which remix would be included in the re-release of ‘Music Is the Answer’ on Twisted.
A winner and two runners-up have been chosen - click through for the full story.
Drum roll, please…
Winner: Gabriel Vezzola Mix
Name: Gabriel Vezzola
From: The Hague, Netherlands
Age: 27
Remix style: House

“I almost can’t believe it! There were so many remix entries, I did not expect anything to be honest,” says first place winner Gabriel Vazzola.
“‘Music Is The Answer’ has always been one of my favorite records, and just to have the chance to remix it for my own pleasure was a big thing for me.
“But to actually win this competition is almost unreal and a huge honor!”
When asked about his musical background, Gabriel states:"The music virus started when I was very young, I think around the age of 14.
“My father noticed this so he gave me two turntables, a little mixer and a small drum computer for me to learn and experiment.
“I carefully started producing tracks with a very small set up, still learning the tricks of the equipment.
“In a later stage of my life, I did a music production course to really learn the ins and outs of studio equipment.
“It wasn’t until 2004 when I started DJing; I have a weekly residency in a small club in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
“I’m 27 years of age now so I’ve been involved with music for thirteen years.”
Born in Italy and currently living in Voorburg, The Netherlands, Gabriel has been a full-time producer since 2002.
He’s produced some records in the past under different project names, which were released on various Dutch labels and are available for download on Beatport.
“Currently, I’m producing on a daily basis in my studio and doing a collaboration with Dutch DJ Michel de Hey, which is rather cool, as well,” says Gabriel.
His remix will be included on the digital re-release of Twisted Records’ ‘Music is the Answer’, and he will also receive a Native Instruments Traktor Skratch, Pioneer DJM-700 Mixer, and a $100 Beatport gift card.
2nd place: DJ Rossko RMX
Name: DJ Rossko aka Rossen Stoev
From: Sofia, Bulgaria
Remix style: Electro house
Website: www.myspace.com/djrosskodj

Mr. Rossen Stoev, aka DJ Rossko, says: “To be in the 1st position in this competition must feel great; however the thrill of being in the 2nd position is just as strong.”
Starting off as a DJ in 1991 and producing since 1998, Rossko is one of the co-founders of the Deep Zone Project, where he DJs and is the sound designer in charge of the arrangements.
He says that he has worked with almost all the DJs in Bulgaria, most recently with Da Hool, Alex Kvitta, Amok, Cave, D.A.V.E, The Drummer, Leo Laker & Martin Montana.
“Together with my team, Deep Zone Project, we have released a few tracks on Beatport on the label USB (Underground Sound of Bulgaria), which also released a number one hit in Bulgaria called ‘DJ Take Me Away’ that is currently being distributed worldwide via “ To Co International” from Holland.
The so-called “vocoder” part of his remix appeared to be the most interesting part for the other contestants.
He says,"I referred to it as ‘so-called’ because all of them were very impressed by the way I handled the vocoder. Well, I would have to surprise them by saying that this was not a vocoder, it is actually a very efficient work with plug in tune of waves.”
DJ Rossko has won himself his choice of one Native Instruments Soundpack and a $50 Beatport Gift Card.
3rd place: Dirty Rush RMX
Name: Dirty Rush aka Konrad Grela
From: Cracow, Poland
Remix style: Progressive house
Website: www.myspace.com/dirtyrush
Konrad was really excited to learn he had placed third in the remix competition.
He had thought that since the number of his ‘spins’ weren’t as high as some other entries that he’d be overlooked as a finalist in the competition. Au contraire.
While they scoured the hundreds of entries, the Beatportal remix team found his entry among the many submitted and passed it on to the judges.
Konrad has been DJing and producing for four years, with work that includes Powerbasse, Bio-Punk, and Mindblast, amongst others.
Konrad won his choice of one Native Instruments Soundpack, and a $25 Beatport Gift Card.

Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to everyone who submitted a remix and contributed to this contest.
