Mr. Oizo and Justice’s Gaspard Auge: Rubber

In the grand tradition of horror films about inanimate objects come to life—Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Death Bed: The Bed that Eats and of course The Lift, with its memorable tagline, “Take the stairs… Take the stairs… For God’s sake, take the stairs!"—comes Rubber, a new film by Quentin Dupieux.

You may remember Dupieux as the director of such films as Steak and Nonfilm, but you probably know him best as Mr. Oizo [a], the French electronic-funk maverick.

For the soundtrack, he’s teamed up with Justice’s Gaspard Auge, and the results are as unusual as the film itself. Alongside ravey electro-techno bangers like the title track, there’s plenty of synthesizer meandering inspired by the likes of Vangelis as well as gleaming electronic pop reminiscent of John Carpenter and Alan Howarth’s soundtrack to Escape from New York. Fans of vintage film scores and library music will eat this up. (That is, if the renegade tire doesn’t eat them first.)

The Rubber soundtrack, released by Ed Banger, is available on Beatport now. Check out all 14 tracks plus another teaser video after the jump.
