Movement ends, but the memories remain
30 May, 2008 | 8.15AM- Section: Music News Topics: Movement 2008
Movement festival is probably the best large scale electronic music event I’ve been to in the United States.
Everything from the organization, to the line-ups, the festival site, the soundsystems and the music was perfect (the sunny weather helped too).
Movement’s organisers Paxahau really looked after the artists, press and workers behind the scenes by offering top quality catering and free drinks for all.
Even the cops got buffet lunch and dinners.

Because of this, many artists and DJs hung out for all three days, and could be seen socializing and dancing with the rest of the crowd and backstage with friends.
As the sun was setting on the final day of Movement, I asked a friend who was experiencing an electronic music event like this for the first time what he thought of the festival (he’s a hardcore hip hopper).
It’s always interesting to hear what people outside of the electronic music scene think of this underground dancing world that we live in.

“You know this festival was a real eye-opener,” he said.
“It’s way way left, and you really see the sense of community you guys have by coming here.

“Hip hop used to be like this, everyone working together for the music and the scene, but over time the corporate man got involved and now hip hop is all about the money.
“I think hip hop could learn a thing or two from electronic music.”
We should be proud of our community then, and keep working to ensure its continued success.

PS: Ripping off the five wristbands in the photo was painful both physically and mentally.
