The first 35 artists appearing at Detroit’s Movement 2009 festival in May have been announced, and as always the event looks likely to be a techno fan’s wet dream.

“Every year our goal is to build upon the success of the previous year by bringing the best available local, national and international talent to Detroit in order to create a weekend experience unlike any other in the world,” said Jason Huvaere, president of Paxahau. 

“Our team spends a lot of time selecting artist and DJs that will appeal to electronic music enthusiasts. This year there will be a major Detroit presence at the festival as well as some performers that rarely set foot on stage in the United States.”    

Rare diamond acts confirmed for Movement 2009 include the Wighnomy Brothers (check out their cuts in the player below), Luciano, Onur Ozer, Osunlade and Los Hermanos.

There will also be a surprise performance from the UK’s The Prodigy, who will play the official opening party on Friday, 22nd May at The Fillmore. “The Prodigy is straight up electronic music with a rock attitude,’ said Huvaere. "This is sure to be an awesome kick-off to an amazing weekend of electronic music in Detroit.”

Last year’s Movement was one of the most successful large scale techno festivals in the U.S. ever, with over 80,000 attendees showing their support over three days.
