Moscow lives in house but the music must be sold!

Noiz is one of the most successful producers in CIS.

His tracks are being sold on Beatport and are regularly included in sets of the best world’s DJs such as Armin Van Buuren, Markus Schulz and others.

The DJ Mag’s tour-presentation (Ukraine) gave us the great opportunity to talk with DJ Noiz and to get answers on many exciting questions.

Tell us plz, what is DJ Mag UA tour for you?
I consider that it is a serious, confident breakthrough in the field of dance culture. Truly speaking, i didn’t expect that everything would be so cool. Respect to Sender for all work that has been done. Im proud of Send Records, proud of being a resident of Send Records, proud of such a project as Dj Mag.

Nowadays labels and electronic musicians have a lot of problems due pirate
distribution of their music. How do you think, is there any chance to hold on
the level of sellings?

In truth, it is soluted with PR. For example to be published in magazines to
raise sellings. To my mind Dj needs good ads more journalists, more reportages, video reports. So I cant say that this problem can be solved easily - you need quite a loi of time. But we are striving to it. And one more advice for musicians - dont distribute your music for free.

So what should do unexperienced producers? Because they cant sell their music at the beginning of career and free distribution can help to raise their
popularity.

I dont argue about that. At first you should do a lot of works and then people
start to recognize you.

What do you think about projects oriented only for profit, for example Pimenov’s project Benzina. Dont they destroy club culture?

I think that such project must be. It is like conceptual project. What’s the
gimmick of rhese projects? Breast. Benzina is played out, now she is married
bringing up the children.

People started to talk that house had played out and it doesnt have the future.
Is it evolve to techno or electro?
It is coming from Europe. According to Russia and USA - house always alive, it is a culture that cant be burried. I’m working in the most glamorous club of Moscow “Ray” (Paradise). And I can consider that our club is built on house culture and here is vice versa techno and electro arent rated.

How do you think, what CIS producer can enter top-100 Dj mag?

It should be Sender. He is sensible and makes great tracks.

What about Noiz ? :)

Yes. I have been working for 12 years and see the success of my tracks. Hmm, whom
I should name?

Pimenov?

No, because he is a core of Russian pop culture.

But such people must be.

Yes they definetely must. But here all is run by PR. Good PR company. Pure
commercial attitude.

What is more important for you: producing of your own music or mixing another’s
tracks.

The main in my career is author’s tracks, my remixes. I play mainly my music.
90% of the set is my tracks.

How do you think, is Kazantip still alive?

Kazantip is growing. In this year there will be megafest. He chose the right
commercial line. That VIP zone of the previous year called Marsm It is very nice. I think that Kazantip will grow up and grow over and become one of the lideres as Ibiza and other fests. Kazantip is the breakthrough. It is progressing. Raising up. In a year it will become a festival where foreigners will come. The potential of Kazantip is enormous.

Will you be shot in ads of antidandruff preparation for sufficient sum of money?
Why not? It is great PR.

What is your attitude to ratings? Aren’y you offended as a house Dj that first
places are occupied by trance musicians.

Trance culture has always been on the first place. It is the music for the most
part of people. I am trying to play trance in my sets. Trance is mutating.

In that way has appeared progressive?

Yes. Progressive is the most succesful mutation of trance. Trance rocks.

Whom do you know of Ukrainian producers except Sender?
A lot of. 2Special. Drive Dealers. Stranger and others.

What about Slava Flash?

I’ve heard. But i dont like his creativity.

What will you advise to a person who wants to become a DJ?

To buy headphones, to buy plates and go to the DJ’s school.

Vinyl will die? Or not?

He has already died. It is played out as a carrier. Why should one draws kilos of useless plastic which bring you problems on custom office. Then CDs will disappear.
Now you can put into the mixer 2 iPods and thats all.

What is the most important for a DJ?

The main is not mixing of music but its giving, selecting. You should spend a lot of
time to select the proper music.

What style of music you will never play?
I think it is drum’n’bass.

We also thought that ;-)

But let’s not make plans too early. Maybe in 1-2 years this culture will become
a leading one.

Dont think so. It is for youth.

Yes for young and energetic. In truth i am a multiproducer and I can easily rebuild
on every musicak format. Have no problems with that.
D’n’b is unique culture which I dont wanna touch now. It is very fast music
and a million of calories should be spent to understand it.

What music do you listen when you are free?

I adore deep house, lounge to take a rest from music I am working with. Brain is
getting tired.

Who was the first in club music for you?

Deep Dish. In the childhood I loved Ali.

Do you have some income source except DJing and producing?

No, My tours and producer activity are all money for me. Studio, writing
remixes and tracks. I am selling them on labels and earn money. I have some
projects that will be launched in the near future. It is collaboration with
Russian band Banderos. Their producer offered me coworking. So it will be new project.
I cant tell you the name now but can tell that this will be dance project,
freak project. Videos will be shot, much money will be invested here. I have one
more project with Sergei Lemoh, ex-vocalist of Karmen. Our project is named
Power Project. There will be all English-speaking tracks. The Project is oriented
for USA and Europe. One track is ready. It is called Camaro. For the now model of
Chevrolet Camaro. Maybe it ll become a corporative hymn.

Did you come in commercial wilds?

Everyon wants to earn there is nothing bad here.

Great thanks for the interview.

Dj mag forever !
