Morgan Geist drops new album

It was about time for another solo joint.

Over ten years after his last solo album ’The Driving Memoirs’ [check it out after the jump] on the now defunct Clear label, Metro Areas’ Morgan Geist returns with ’Double Night Time’.

The album will be released in September on Geist’s own label Environ and will feature vocals from Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys, who already worked with Morgan Geist on his last EP ’Most Of All’, also on Environ.

Obviously a lot has changed since ’The Driving Memoirs’, which was filled with Geist’s unique and playful quirky take on Detroit techno.

His latest releases (alone and with his Metro Area partner Darshan Jesrani) have shown him and Environ from a more pop-orientated angle, with lots of vocals and tongue-in-cheek melodies.

The press release accompanying ’Double Night Time’ states that with producing the album, Geist went back to his ”own early influences and guilty pleasures: techno-pop, prog rock and pure electronic music.“

In about two months time we will know how that sounds – probably eciting.

And on a different note: Environ are looking for an intern. So if you are living in New York and can’t wait to work for an prolific underground label, send them an email.
