Moloko’s Róisín Murphy back with new album
14 May, 2007 | 3.33AMMoloko’s Róisín Murphy steps back into the solo spotlight with ‘Overpowered’ (EMI), and as with Tracey Thorn’s recent Everything But The Girl sabbatical, Murphy’s return is similarly a heady mix of electronic dance anthems, soul-stirring pop songs, deep, dark funk and quirky lyrical melancholy.
The Dubliner has co-written and produced much of the album herself, and so it has an obvious personal feel, her label going a step further and aptly describing it as sharing the ‘nuance of Kate Bush, the strength of Annie Lennox and the soulfulness of Dusty Springfield’.
The title-track, and forthcoming single, a casing point - Seiji of Bugz In The Attic co-producing and Tom Elmhirst (Amy Winehouse, Røyksöpp, Grace Jones) on the mix - it will be accompanied with a fine selection of remixes from Seamus Haji, Kris Menace, Hervé and Loose Cannons.
