Moguai’s Deadmau5 tour diary: Part 1
4 May, 2010 | 7.08AMDeadmau5’ European tour kicked off this weekend with a double header at London’s famous Brixton Academy venue. For the next two weeks, Deadmau5
and his support act Moguai will play shows in Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Luxembourg, Paris, Glasgow, and London.
German DJ and producer Moguai
recently became the only artist other than the Canadian superstar to release an album on Deadmau5’ label Mau5trap - his LP ‘We Ar Lyve’ was released at the beginning of April. With the mau5 having grown into such a huge worldwide phenomenon, we asked Moguai to send us constant blog dispatches from the tour to keep us up to date with everything that happens on the road.
Here is his first video, notes, and photos from this past weekend.
Moguai tour diary: Deadmau5 tour part 1

30th April 2010
London, Brixton Academy
After a delayed flight to Heathrow we went straight to Brixton Academy, for my first ever soundcheck. It’s a weird feeling playing LYVE with my machines instead of DJing.
After getting my setup to work flawlessly I met Deadmau5 backstage finally. After three singles and one album on his label Mau5trap, it was about time!
Brixton Academy is a historical theatre with a stunning history. I didn’t know that bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Motörhead, Cypress Hill, or my favourites, The Killers and The Pogues played there.
Before I started my first LYVE gig in the UK, Michael Woods
really managed to get the crowd going. The place was packed, and although I was just the support act and most of the people didn’t know my album ‘We Ar Lyve’, the atmosphere was still great.

London, Brixton Academy
What does the owner of a season ticket for FC Schalke 04 do on the second to last matchday, if he can not be on his permanent seat in the stadium because he is in the motherland of football? Well, he searches for a pub that shows Germany’s Bundesliga, even if it takes half a day! Watching Bastian Schweinsteiger and Arjen Robben dancing on the field after the final whistle was not exactly what I wanted to see in a crowded Portuguese pub.
Later, as I arrived at my second London home, Brixton Academy, I saw a queue that stretched at least five hundred meters, incredible! Do you remember the film Gladiator, when Russell Crowe entered the arena? Then you can imagine what it felt like for me going on stage. My second LYVE experience was really fun because I felt so much more comfortable with the setup.

Moguai’s live set up
Two friends from Estonia surprised me with a visit after the show - I have played for them regularly for years now. Nic Fanciulli, who is a constant guest in my DJ sets and playlists, also came down for a drink or two.
I have to admit, I am still stoked about being on the Deadmau5 show. The stage set up is just out of this world, truly unbelievable. It’s like Star Wars at Brixton Academy with Lord Vader in the command center.
Afterwards, we went to Ministry of Sound to visit my old friend Tocadisco
playing with Benny Benassi at the Toolroom Knights party. The day of searching for football was not one of the best, but the night more than made up for it!
