Miss Kittin @ Bugged Out, The End
29 December, 2007 | 8.21AM- Section: Music News
Headlining the Bugged Out night for the first time in a year, Miss Kittin was always guaranteed to draw a big crowd at The End last Saturday.
The woman behind two of the biggest hits of 2001 and 2002, ‘Silver Screen Shower Scene’ (with Felix Da Housecat) and ‘Rippin Kittin’ (with Golden Boy), and what is widely regarded as the best compilation of the Bugged Out series in 2006, was back for the label’s Christmas party, much to the delight of her London fans.
Joined by Bugged Out resident JoJo De Freq, Clandestino co-founder Miss Jools and Erol Alkan and MSTRKRFT favourites Skull Juice, among others, the night was a minimal-electro bash of epic proportions that had the crowd enraptured from start to finish.
We missed the opening acts but were quickly brought up to speed by the lovely JoJo De Freq, exhibiting her considerable diversity with a fabulous wonky house set.
Opening to a well warmed-up crowd, Miss Kittin went above and beyond the call of duty as she took her fans on a supersonic journey showcasing her new album Batbox, a gothic-tinged assortment of deep techy treats.
Deep to begin with, Miss Kittin picked up the pace with the catchy dance track ‘Disco Machine’, the crowd joining in for the electrifying vocal refrain.
She slowed up again for the first dark and edgy single off the album, ‘Kittin Is High’ [check it in the player below] then launched into an extended synth-laden piece that was reminiscent of early Depeche Mode, before taking us back another decade with a funk-heavy disco track.
Returning to her minimal roots to finish, Miss Kittin demonstrated how she earned her title as the Queen of Electro, and looks unlikely to be giving up the throne anytime soon.
Brendan Long then took over with a grimey, techy set, whilst Skull Juice set a different tone in the lounge with a moderate, yet very danceable indie-disco mix.
Ben Fat Trucker (half of Gucci Soundsystem along with Space wunderkind Riton) delivered the goods in the lounge’s final act of the night with his own brand of funky minimalism, whilst Ed Karney and Craig Torrance took things deeper upstairs in the AKA bar in their second run behind the decks.
All in all, an absolute blinder of a night at Bugged Out, with Miss Kittin back to her shining best and the support acts doing a sterling job throughout the rest of the evening.
Much better than your average Christmas party, that’s for sure!
