Mike Monday drops ‘The 11 11’ on Om Records

It’s been a while since we last heard from Mike Monday – almost two years, to be exact – when he delivered ‘Smorgasbord’, which won numerous accolades and superlatives in the dance press.

Lauded as album of the month in i-DJ, while DJ mag called it “an LP we just can’t put down”, others jump on board and claim it as a future classic.

Now signed to San Francisco’s Om Records label, the man who never fails to impress, educate and entertain is back.

‘The 11 11’ (no, we’re not sure what it means, either) is backed with the equally oddball titled ‘Hello Nest’.

Regardless, it’s another terrific house offering that pairs dubbed-out beats with techno-tinged melodies to create a modern day jackin’ sound.

The addition of a driving synth-line only helps this swing, shake ‘n’ rattle in all the right places over a dirty-as-hell bassline.

Anything but what we’ve come to usually expect from the label, the sound is an equally refreshing break from convention for Om, and is taken from the upcoming album, ‘Songs Without Words’ by Monday.

Early support finds favour with Laurent Garnier, Claude von Stroke, Ralph Lawson, Mark Knight and Deep Dish’s Sharam
