Midweek Tech Snips: September 24th, 2008

With so many wicked new toys coming down the pipeline every hour, it’s too hard to serve up all these news items on a daily basis.

Today I’ll give you some quick info about a new dubstep library from Soniccouture, ravin’ sounds by Sample Magic, crazy delay effects from Artificial Audio, a heavy compression suite from de la Mancha, and bloopy bleeps care of Puremagnetik.

Soniccouture releases Tremors

Continually raising the bar with top-quality and innovative sound libraries, Soniccouture gives us Tremors with their new Dubstep beat collection.

Tremors includes 300 drum loops weighing in at around 550 megs.

You have the option of REX, Wav, and Apple Loops, all of which have the different elements of the beats split up.

Tremors has a pricetag of 39 GBP, which converts to roughly $70 USD.

Sample Magic drops Nu-Rave

No stranger to this blog for their past releases, Sample Magic hits up another popular sound of the season, this one being the coveted Nu-Rave flavor made popular by folks such as Justice, MSTRKRFT and A-Trak.

From the creators: “Nu-Rave offers 100s of prime electro-house, disco-punk and sleazy new wave mashups. Boasting 800+MB Wavs at 120, 125 and 130bpms, this is our most exciting release to date, offering the very best in Parisien house and indie-tinged electronica.”

Artificial Audio releases Obelisk

This Mac-only effects unit called Obelisk is really interesting!

It’s basically a delay and filter combination that works by setting envelopes while you look at the frequency content of your audio.

There have been many spectral-based effects in the past, but this one looks like a fresh take on the concept, complete with a slick interface.

I’ll be staying tuned for a Windows version myself. Obelisk costs 99 Euros and is available from the Artificial Audio website.

de la Mancha makes a Bathtub

The ever-so-busy plugin developer de la Mancha releases the Bathtub compressor, just after releasing the Erratic2 drum machine not too long ago.

“Bathtub is more than just a simple compressor. It does multi-band compression, multi-layer parallel compression, series compression, mid/side compression, Left/Right compression, RMS/Peak detection, side-chaining, look-ahead, limiting & maximizing and has comprehensive metering and clip counting.”

With features such as these, Bathtub is sure to get your mixes popping hotter than ever.

Puremagnetik adds Blip and a free drum pack

Subscription soundware service Puremagnetik has added Blip to their library, a collection of Atari 2600 sounds for Live, Kontakt and Logic.

They also just added a free library called Kamoni’s Electronic Kits which is a collection of five drum kits for Ableton Live created by New York sound designer Kamoni.

It is free to people registered on the site.
